The process
Stonecraft applies the traditional method of whetstone grinding to bring your knife blade to a fine, better-than-new sharpness. For scissors, an array of diamond-grit hand tools are used to custom file a new, clean cutting edge to each blade.
Why whetstones?
Powerful belt and wheel grinders used in conventional sharpening can produce a quick edge, but the process generates a great deal of heat, which can be harmful to tempered steel. It can also remove too much material from the blade, shortening the life of your favourite knife. Hand sharpening on whetstones eliminates the risk of mechanical damage and produces a razor-sharp edge while shedding the least amount of metal possible.
